The best time to visit Athens for a honeymoon or romantic holidays

If you’re planning a romantic trip to Athens with your significant other, our number one advice is to avoid the peak season (ie. July-August). Hordes of tourists and overcrowded streets aren’t the most romantic things, right? Your best bet lies in the shoulder season. April, May, and October are the perfect months to enjoy relaxing holidays in Athens. During these months, you can do a bunch of romantic activities, including Saronic cruises, rooftop dining, watching movies at open-air cinema theaters, and sunset watching at the Athenian riviera. The weather is still good, but the crowds aren’t as bad as in August!

June, July, August, and September are the best months to enjoy the sea in Athens. Regarding yachting and sailing, if you want to avoid the crowds and find a place to park your yacht easily, then we suggest avoiding August because the ports are quite busy. June and September are the best months for both sailing and swimming, as the weather is hot and the water is warm, but the beaches and the ports aren’t overflowing with people and boats.

If you’re planning on visiting Athens with your family, then we suggest opting for your visit to fall either from June to mid-July or from November to March. The first period is perfect for summer holidays, while the latter for winter holidays. However, during both periods, the Greek capital isn’t overcrowded and entrance to the most popular attractions is usually hassle-free!

April, May, and October are the best months to visit Athens for relaxing low-key holidays. Even if you go to Athens during the Greek Easter (late April or early May), you don’t have to worry about the crowds, as the Athenians leave the capital to celebrate Easter on the islands or the villages of the Greek mainland. Also, the temperature in Athens during these months can climb to 20-25 °C, which creates the perfect conditions for relaxing outdoor activities, from lazing by the pool to sipping cocktails on the city’s best rooftop bars.

Parties take place in Athens throughout the year, you just have to know where to go. In general, Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and the Carnival are occasions for bigger parties and celebrations throughout the city. So, if this is what you have in mind, the best time to visit Athens is from November to March. If on the other side, you fancy legendary beach parties and endless nights of dancing and drinking in the Athenian Riviera, your best bet is to visit Athens in the summer!
